The NEXT step

So i've now experienced whats it's like to be a buyer of a major fashion retailer. Next was important for me as Its a brand that has developed from somewhere close to home it's a brand that has been worn and loved in my family home for years. I worked on the Branded fashion department along side the buying team. I learnt so much about the job both genrally about life as a buyer and more specifically to Next.

My first job was to research upcoming trends for S/S 2010 the Pre Collection.I leanr't all about Pre collections and the importance of them. I discovered 8 emerging trends and I had to present them to the buyers using a powerpoint.
My  8 Emerging Trends

My next task was to produce someclient boards to present to the managers the items bought for the upcoming seasons. My department was brands and so everything works a little differently because your not seeing a product designed it's more a case of selection.

I also spent a day in the studio whereabouts they shoot for the directory and the website. Again another informative day and everyone had so much time for me even though they were really busy and on srtrict deadlines. I was shown how to photograph underwear shoes and some clothing items. It is way more complicated than it looks when you see images on the website and on average thye only take 25 images a day !! Which doesn't seem like very many at all but infact 25 is pretty good. I was taken to post production whereabouts I was shown the editing process and I learn't different techniques in photoshop!! Here are a few of my edits experimenting with the cut out tools mirror image and lighting. Things like the bras have to be perfect when photogrpahed but because theyre photographed flat it's hard to get them equal and so in post production one half is flipped and mirror imaged.

I also got a chance to write some articles for the internet. The articles are published online so that search engines can pick up key words and direct people to the Next website. I had to use key words and try and fit them into an 'intersting' article that sounds quite genuine it was really challenging: see if you can spot the key words...
